Innovation requires a willingness to engage in wholesale reexamination...

Recently we were contracted by an organization supported by a national board as well as several local community boards. The boards did not function together and were not engaged in a coordinated fundraising effort. During the process of assessing the organization's potential for growth, it became clear that one of the assets organizational leaders were not currently accessing was their vast network of stakeholders. Historically, the organization had developed in such as way so that national and local groups acted independently of one another.

By redesigning the board structure and reaching out to local consituencies, we were able to help this organization refocus its efforts to involve stakeholders who had been longstanding supporters but did not necessarily see themselves as part of a larger national group.

Now the national board includes representatives from each local organization. And, national and local groups work in tandem to coordinate fundraising and build support for the organization at both the local and the national levels.
